"An Extraordinary Century for Women---- Now, Imagine the Future"
The sites listed below are but a small number of web sites that celebrate the accomplishments of women and encourage and educate young girls and boys about the exciting careers and opportunities available in the new millennium. Recently the Native American Sacagawea was honored for her contribution guiding explorers Lewis and Clark across the northwestern United States, on the new, gold, dollar coin. Find out about her and many other fascinating women in our history.
The Web site iWASwondering.org is a
project of the National Academy of Sciences intended to
showcase the accomplishments of contemporary women in
science and to highlight for young people the varied and
intriguing careers of some of today's most prominent
scientists. The site draws from and accompanies the
publication of a ten-volume series of biographies entitled
Women's Adventures in Science, co-published by the Joseph
Henry Press (an imprint of the National Academies Press) and
Scholastic Library Publishing. http://www.womeninscience.org/ "The audio stories featured in the four radio series on
this website were originally produced for radio broadcast as
part of a national effort to increase the role of women in
science, technology, engineering and mathematics by
encouraging young girls and women to pursue educational
paths and careers in these fields. These stories can be used
as a resource for students, teachers, parents, guidance
counselors, organizational leaders, researchers,
professors-anyone who wants to help girls and young women
achieve the dream of a career in science and
technology."
